Martin C. Walker – Chief Knowledge Officer and Founder
Mr. Walker’s primary responsibility is the technology development and delivery of Information Defense Corporation’s solutions.
Martin has over 20 years experience in Information Technology. Mr. Walker’s primary focus over the last 13 years has been Information Security practices. Martin’s expertise includes incident response, forensics, security design, implementation and management, as well as security program development including policy, process, and regulatory compliance. Prior to founding Information Defense Martin delivered solutions for Protiviti to a variety of high profile global clients. Martin’s experience spans a wide range of environments including financial services and banking, healthcare providers and payers, manufacturers, telecommunications, media outlets, charitable organizations, managed service providers, and utilities. Balancing an extensive technical background, Martin is a firm believer in a business focused pragmatic approach to problem solving and solutions development.
Mr. Walker holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Cincinnati. Along with many product-specific certifications, Martin is a GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA), a GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst (GCFA), a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), and a Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP). Martin is a member of the SANS/GIAC Advisory Board and is a SANS Mentor.
Martin J. Schmidt – Executive Vice President and Founder
Mr. Schmidt’s primary responsibilities include the business development and product design of Information Defense Corporation’s solutions. Marty has over 25 years experience delivering technology solutions in large global environments. Marty has served in both technical and executive IT leadership roles within diverse global organizations serving the pharmaceutical, financial services, consumer goods and healthcare industries.
Prior to Information Defense Marty founded Network Management Solutions in 1996, a Managed Services Provider and technology integrator where he served as CEO for over 10 years. Network Management Solutions designed, implemented and managed network infrastructures and management systems for the Fortune 500, and SME market. Marty has been responsible for assisting a variety of security solutions providers establish brand awareness and market presence within the US including UBIZEN, Qualys and Network Intelligence.
Mr. Schmidt is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music in Boston and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from New Jersey Institute of Technology. Marty is a member of the New York US Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force.
John F. Covin – Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Covin’s focus is to ensure the organization’s business strategy and operational execution are aligned with the goal of creating continuity between business growth and a continued expanding customer satisfaction.
John is a highly skilled professional having participated in a variety of dynamic growth oriented organizations which moved from startup businesses to well known entities.
Mr. Covin has extensive experience in the pharmaceuticals and life sciences industry where he has worked in the areas of Information Technology, Clinical Trials, and Customer Service. John was a key participant in the successful spinoff of Corning Pharmaceutical Services from Corning Inc., now known as Covance (NYSE CVD).
John as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Covance lead the integration of 13 formerly separate businesses into one cohesive global entity. Mr. Covin also assisted in the startup and growth of Synarc, a venture capital backed Contract Research Organization as the CIO and later COO. CCBR-Synarc is the world’s largest central radiology service dedicated to clinical trials.
Mr. Covin is a veteran having served as an officer in the US Navy. John has a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M – Commerce, and a Masters of Arts from The Citadel.
